Dr. R. A. Purnachandra Tejaswi — Director and Head of Department of Sports Orthopaedics in Hyderabad

Dr. R. A. Purnachandra Tejaswi is Director and Head of the Department of Sports Orthopaedics, Arthroscopy and Shoulder Service at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, with more than 15 years of experience across orthopedics and reconstructive arthroscopy.

His list reflects that dual title. Sports and shoulder work covers ACL and PCL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic surgery, shoulder instability and frozen shoulder. Arthroplasty covers total knee and total hip replacement, partial knee replacement, hip resurfacing, shoulder replacement and revision hip replacement. He also performs limb lengthening surgery, fracture fixation and joint injection.

He read MBBS at Government Medical College in Mysore and took his MS in orthopaedics and the DNB, with his orthopaedic surgery residency at Manipal University.

His four fellowships were taken in four countries and each maps onto part of his list: hip surgery at Dresden, shoulder surgery at Concordia Hospital in Rome, hip and knee reconstructive surgery at the ATOS Clinic in Heidelberg, and sports medicine with reconstructive arthroscopy and joint preservation at Dalhousie University in Halifax. He also holds a diploma in sports medicine from the International Olympic Committee.

He was elected a Fellow of the Arthroscopic Association of Canada in June 2019 and won its best fellow research paper award in the same month. He belongs to the Indian Arthroscopic Society, the Canada Orthopaedic Society, ISAKOS, ESSKA and others, and has presented at ISAKOS and at the Canadian and Indian orthopaedic association conferences.
