Treatment guides

Canonical GAF treatment content

  • Bronchoscopy treatment guide

Bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive airway procedure in which a thin flexible scope with a light, camera and working channel passes through the nose or mouth, larynx and trachea into the bronchi. It can inspect the airway, wash cells and microbes from a lung segment, brush or biopsy a lesion and, in therapeutic cases, remove secretions or treat an obstruction.

  • EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) treatment guide

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) combines flexible bronchoscopy with a linear ultrasound transducer at the scope tip so structures beyond the airway wall can be seen and sampled. EBUS-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) commonly targets defined mediastinal and hilar lymph-node stations or a central peribronchial mass.

  • Rigid Bronchoscopy treatment guide

Rigid bronchoscopy places a straight, hollow metal ventilating barrel through the mouth and larynx into the trachea or main bronchi under general anaesthesia. Its wide lumen secures a central-airway corridor for high-volume suction, optical instruments, forceps, stents and bleeding-control or tumour-debulking tools.

  • Airway Stenting treatment guide

Airway stenting places a tubular prosthesis in the trachea or a main bronchus to hold open a clinically important central-airway narrowing, seal selected airway defects or support a collapsing airway. Silicone and self-expanding covered metal stents behave differently and usually require bronchoscopic surveillance and a removal or revision strategy.

  • Medical Thoracoscopy treatment guide

Medical thoracoscopy is a single- or limited-port examination of the pleural space performed by a trained pulmonologist, usually under local anaesthetic with conscious sedation in a procedure room. It permits drainage, direct inspection, multiple parietal pleural biopsies and, when appropriate, talc poudrage pleurodesis followed by chest-drain management.

  • Medical Pleuroscopy treatment guide

Medical pleuroscopy is direct endoscopic inspection of the pleural space through a limited chest-wall port, usually using a semi-rigid pleuroscope under local anaesthetic and conscious sedation. It permits pleural-fluid drainage, targeted parietal biopsies and selected talc poudrage, followed by a chest drain.

  • Cryo-Lung Biopsy treatment guide

Transbronchial lung cryobiopsy uses a flexible cryoprobe passed through a bronchoscope into peripheral lung, where rapid cooling freezes parenchyma onto the probe for en-bloc extraction. It yields larger, less-crushed tissue cores than forceps biopsy but carries important bleeding and pneumothorax risks.

  • TBNA (Transbronchial Needle Aspiration) treatment guide

Conventional transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) passes a sheathed needle through the bronchial wall into a lymph node or peribronchial lesion selected from CT and airway landmarks, without real-time ultrasound. Aspirated cells and fragments are prepared for cytology, cell block and selected microbiology.

  • Lung Transplantation treatment guide

Lung transplantation replaces one or both irreversibly diseased lungs with deceased-donor organs; heart-lung transplantation is reserved for selected combined cardiopulmonary disease. It is a regulated allocation treatment with major surgery, ICU care and lifelong immunosuppression—not an organ that an international patient can buy or schedule.

Cost guides

Indicative planning ranges

India planning ranges are not city tariffs, hospital quotations or patient-specific prices. A named hospital must confirm the written estimate.

Conditions

Explicitly related conditions

Conditions appear only when the controlled specialty profile or canonical procedure content records the relationship.

  • Airway lesions and obstruction

Visible narrowing, tumour, retained secretions or unexplained airway change may require diagnostic or therapeutic bronchoscopy after CT and clinical review.

  • Lung nodules and thoracic lymph nodes

Target location and the tissue needed for pathology or molecular testing guide EBUS, TBNA, endobronchial or transbronchial sampling.

  • Diffuse and interstitial lung disease

Selected cases may need transbronchial forceps or cryobiopsy only after multidisciplinary review of HRCT pattern, physiology and procedural risk.

  • Pleural effusion and pleural disease

Fluid, pleural thickening or suspected infection or malignancy may require drainage, biopsy or thoracoscopic inspection according to imaging and stability.

  • Airway foreign body

Suspected aspiration can require urgent flexible or rigid bronchoscopy with anaesthesia and airway-rescue planning.

  • Advanced lung disease

Lung transplantation is a separate multidisciplinary programme requiring disease, functional, psychosocial, donor and transplant-risk assessment.
