Dr. Ram Chidambaram — Clinical Director in Chennai

Dr. Ram Chidambaram is Clinical Director and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at MGM Healthcare in Chennai, with more than 34 years of experience.

The shoulder and elbow are the centre of his practice. He performs rotator cuff repair and shoulder replacement, treats shoulder instability and frozen shoulder, and manages tennis elbow and golfer's elbow. His hand work covers carpal tunnel release and tendon repair, and he also performs ACL and PCL reconstruction and fracture fixation.

His qualifications were taken over fifteen years across three countries' systems. He read MBBS at Thanjavur Medical College in 1992, took a Diploma in Orthopaedics in 1996 and an MS in orthopaedics in 1997 at Trivandrum Medical College, and the DNB in orthopaedics through the National Board in 1998. In the UK he was elected FRCS in general surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 2001 and FRCS in trauma and orthopaedics by the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in 2007.

His memberships are unusually international and cluster around his subspecialty. He belongs to the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, the Shoulder and Elbow Society of India, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the British Indian Orthopaedic Society, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the AO Trauma Group and the General Medical Council, alongside Indian and Tamil Nadu arthroscopy and orthopaedic associations.

He was elected President of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of India in 2017, received the TNOA Achiever Award in 2018, and in 2019 both the Presidential Gold Medal of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and an associate editorship of its journal.
