Dr. Ashok S. Gavaskar — Clinical Lead – Orthopaedics and Head – Joint Replacement Services in Chennai

Dr. Ashok S. Gavaskar is Clinical Lead in Orthopaedics and Head of Joint Replacement Services at Rela Hospital in Chennai, with more than 23 years of experience across orthopedics and arthroplasty.

His list covers total knee and total hip replacement, partial and robotic knee replacement, hip resurfacing, shoulder replacement, ankle replacement, and revision knee and hip replacement. His reconstructive and trauma work is ACL and PCL reconstruction, fracture fixation and non-union repair.

He read MBBS at Madras Medical College in 2003 and took his MS in orthopaedics at Madurai Medical College in 2007, and was elected FRCS by the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and FACS by the American College of Surgeons, both from 2019.

His editorial and committee work is the most substantial part of his record and is unusually international. He sits on the international advisory board of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, has been Deputy Editor of the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology since June 2018, and Associate Editor of the trauma section of the Indian Journal of Orthopaedics since 2019. He reviews for the Journal of Arthroplasty, BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, World Journal of Orthopaedics, BMJ Case Reports and others, and holds the Times Excellence in Orthopaedics Award for 2021 and the Young Ambassador Award of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association.
