What is Upper GI Endoscopy (Gastroscopy)?
Upper GI endoscopy uses a flexible camera passed through the mouth to examine the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine and may allow biopsy or selected treatment. After fasting and sedation or local throat spray as advised, the endoscope is passed through the mouth. The lining is inspected; biopsies or simple treatments are added only if planned or newly indicated.
