Dr. Viswesvaran Balasubramanian — Senior Consultant in Hyderabad

Dr. Viswesvaran Balasubramanian is a Senior Consultant at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda, in Hyderabad, with more than 13 years of experience in pulmonology.

His list spans three areas. The interventional work is bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, transbronchial needle aspiration and airway stenting. The medical respiratory work covers interstitial lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe asthma, bronchiectasis, complex pulmonary infection and drug-resistant tuberculosis, and he is part of lung transplantation care. The sleep work covers obstructive sleep apnea with CPAP titration and management.

He read MBBS at Government Medical College and Hospital in Coimbatore under Dr. MGR Medical University in 2013, took his MD in pulmonary medicine at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi, and the DNB in pulmonary medicine in 2016, then his DM in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in 2019 as a gold medallist. His fellowship in sleep medicine also carried a gold medal, and his fellowship in interventional pulmonology was taken in Malaysia.

His awards follow the same two tracks. He won the Prof K.L. Nagarajan Award in the sleep medicine fellowship examination in 2019 and was best student of the year for it, and he took best image, best video and best overall innovation at the World Congress of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology in Bali.

He belongs to the National College of Chest Physicians, the Indian Chest Society, the Indian Society for Study of Lung Cancer, the European Thoracic Oncology Platform, the European Respiratory Society, the Indian Sleep Disorder Association and the Chest Club of India.
