Dr. Vikas Gupta — Principal Director in Delhi NCR

Dr. Vikas Gupta is Principal Director of the Max Institute of Musculoskeletal Sciences and Orthopaedics at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, in the Delhi NCR, with more than 31 years of experience. His profile records orthopedics together with hand reconstruction.

The hand and upper limb are the centre of his practice. He performs carpal tunnel release, treats Dupuytren's contracture and trigger finger, and carries out hand reconstruction and tendon repair. Alongside that he performs total knee and total hip replacement, partial knee replacement, ACL and PCL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic surgery, fracture fixation and joint injection, and treats plantar fasciitis.

Both of his degrees were taken at AIIMS in New Delhi. His subspecialty training was a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, together with an AO fellowship at Freiberg in Germany.

His record carries two firsts and a volume figure. He was the first surgeon in India to perform a ceramic on ceramic wrist replacement, and has performed over 6,000 complex hand, upper extremity and wrist surgeries. He won a best paper award for work on wrist arthroscopy at the North Zone Indian Orthopedic Association meeting in Srinagar in 2004, and was nominated in Marquis Who's Who in Asia in 2007 for his work in hand and upper extremity surgery.
