Dr. V. S. Reddy — Senior Consultant in Hyderabad

Dr. V. S. Reddy is a Senior Consultant at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in Hyderabad, with more than 24 years of experience in nephrology.

His list covers chronic kidney disease, diabetic nephropathy, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, lupus nephritis and polycystic kidney disease, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, percutaneous renal biopsy, and transplant care from pre-transplant evaluation through post-transplant follow-up.

He read MBBS at Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam in 1993, and took both his postgraduate qualifications at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad: the MD in internal medicine in 1998 and the DM in nephrology in 2003.

His two awards come from that same institute and describe two different kinds of merit. He was named best resident in 2001, which is recognition of clinical work, and received the Smt. Lakshmi Kothandaraman Memorial Gold Medal in 2002 for the best published research work, which is recognition of what he wrote while doing it. Taking both within two years is unusual, since residency rarely leaves time for publication.

His hospital record is straightforward. After his DM he worked at Bolleneni Hospitals in Nellore from May 2003 to April 2005, and has been at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad since May 2005, so two decades of his practice have been in one department.

A single long tenure of that kind means his transplant follow-up and dialysis patients have been under the same physician for years at a time, which is how chronic kidney disease is best managed.
