Dr. V S Mehta — Chairman Emeritus of Neurosciences in Delhi NCR

Dr. V S Mehta is Chairman Emeritus of Neurosciences at Paras Hospitals, Gurugram, in Delhi NCR, with more than 38 years of experience in neurosurgery.

His list is cranial and largely tumour work. He performs brain tumor surgery, glioma surgery and meningioma surgery, skull base tumor surgery and skull base surgery, pituitary tumor surgery, acoustic neuroma or vestibular schwannoma surgery, pediatric brain tumor surgery, craniotomy and endoscopic brain surgery, with spinal tumor surgery alongside them.

After M.B.B.S. and an M.S. in general surgery he took his M.Ch. in neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences.

The Government of India has awarded him the Padma Shri in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the field of neurosurgery. That civilian honour, together with fellowships of both national academies and the title of Chairman Emeritus rather than a serving departmental head, describes a career whose standing rests on its length and contribution to the specialty as much as on its current operating list.

The list itself is worth setting out by group. Glioma, meningioma and brain tumor surgery are recorded together as the general tumour work. Skull base tumor surgery, skull base surgery, pituitary tumor surgery and acoustic neuroma surgery form a second group at the base of the skull. Pediatric brain tumor surgery extends the same work to children, and spinal tumor surgery takes it below the head. Craniotomy and endoscopic brain surgery are listed as the approaches.
