Dr. SVS Deo — Chairman in Delhi NCR

Dr. SVS Deo is Chairman of Surgical Oncology at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, Delhi NCR, with more than 39 years of experience. His work spans surgical oncology together with organ-based multimodality management and intraoperative radiotherapy.

Breast surgery is the clearest thread in his practice: oncoplastic breast surgery, breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy. He also operates on esophageal, gastric, gallbladder, liver, lung, oral and head and neck cancers, performs neck dissection and soft tissue sarcoma surgery, and carries out cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC for peritoneal disease.

He completed his MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College, Andhra University, with a gold medal and distinction in 1987. His fellowship training then ran almost continuously through leading cancer centres in the United States, Taiwan and the United Kingdom: UICC at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in 1998, UICC Geneva in 1999, oncoplasty and microvascular surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan in 2001, IASO-Detroit at Karmanos Cancer Centre in 2002, UICC intraoperative radiotherapy at Ohio State University in 2003, the American College of Surgeons in 2003 and at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2004, and an honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2024.

His awards include the International Guest Scholar Award of the American College of Surgeons, two UICC ICRETT cancer research fellowships, two Young Scientist Awards from the Indian Society of Oncology and the 2023 Rolling Stone Award. He is a former president of the Association of Breast Surgeons of India, the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology and the Indian Association of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies, and a council member of Breast Surgery International.
