Dr. Sudipto Pakrasi — Chairman of Ophthalmology in Delhi NCR

Dr. Sudipto Pakrasi is Chairman of Ophthalmology at Medanta - The Medicity in Delhi NCR, with more than 44 years of experience. His qualifications are MBBS, MD, DNB and MNAMS.

His procedure list is dominated by cataract and refractive work, and it is unusually granular. Cataract surgery appears as phacoemulsification, as complex cases, as premium intraocular lens surgery and as femto laser cataract surgery. LASIK and implantable collamer lens cover refractive correction. Corneal transplantation and keratoconus treatment, glaucoma management, glaucoma surgery and laser glaucoma procedures, diabetic retinopathy treatment and congenital eye disorder treatment complete the range.

He read MBBS at Maulana Azad Medical College in 1982, took his MD in ophthalmology at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS in 1986, and his DNB from the National Board of Examinations in 1987. He is a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and is also associated with Medanta Mediclinic in Defence Colony, New Delhi.

His record is largely a record of firsts. He started refractive surgeries in India in 1986, the year he finished his MD. He was a pioneer of phacoemulsification in India in 1994 and introduced the innovative torsional technique for it in 2004. Over 42 years he has introduced many premium intraocular lenses in Asia, and at Medanta he has led a team that completed over 5,000 femto laser cataract surgeries. He is recognised as one of the leading celebrity cataract surgeons in India.
