Dr. Sethu Babu — HOD & Senior Consultant in Hyderabad

Dr. Sethu Babu is Head of the Department and a Senior Consultant at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in Hyderabad, with more than 38 years of experience in gastroenterology and hepatobiliary medicine.

His practice covers the liver, the biliary tree, the pancreas and the gut. He performs ERCP and GI stenting, and manages chronic liver disease, liver cirrhosis, gallstones, biliary strictures, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease with ulcerative colitis, severe functional GI disorders and severe gastroesophageal reflux disease.

His training was decorated at every stage. He read MBBS at Andhra University, where he was awarded six gold medals, took his MD in internal medicine at Osmania University with a further gold medal, and his DM in gastroenterology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He then took a fellowship in hepatology at King's College Hospital in London, and holds the FCGP awarded by the College of General Practitioners.

He has given four named memorial orations: the Dr. Srinivasan Memorial Oration at Kakinada, the Dr. Nagesh Memorial Oration at Eluru, the Dr. Bhaskar Kumar Memorial Oration at Vijayawada and the Dr. O.A. Sharma Endowment Oration at Hyderabad. He has published 13 papers in Indian and international journals and contributed an article to the textbook of Tropical Gastroenterology published by Elsevier.

His society roles span Indian and British bodies. He is Vice President of INASL AP&T and a member of the ISG chapter for AP&T, and was formerly a governing council member of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. He also belongs to the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Indian Association for Study of Liver Diseases, the Endoscopy Society of India, the Society of Organ Transplantation and the Indo British Health Initiative.
