Dr. Julius Xavier Scott — Director in Chennai

Dr. Julius Xavier Scott is Director of the Department of Paediatric Hemato-Oncology at Rela Hospital in Chennai, with more than 22 years of experience. His qualifications are MBBS, DCH, MD, DNB and a fellowship in paediatric hemato-oncology.

His five listed procedures divide into cancer and non-cancer blood disease in children. Pediatric leukemia and pediatric bone marrow transplant are the cancer side. Thalassemia, sickle cell disease and aplastic anemia are inherited or acquired failures of the blood itself, conditions that a child lives with for years and that transplant can sometimes end outright. One department covering both means a family is not moved between services when the plan changes.

His training was taken almost entirely in Tamil Nadu and finished in Australia. He read MBBS in 1993, DCH in 1997 and MD in paediatrics in 2000, all at Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, then DNB in paediatrics from the National Board of Examinations in 2001. In 2009 he completed a fellowship in paediatric hemato-oncology at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide. Besides Rela Hospital he has worked at Sri Ramachandra Medical University, Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital and Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Chennai.

He is chief editor of SCOTT's PEDIA-TRICKS, a textbook of pediatrics that has sold around 5,000 copies, and author of a paediatric oncology manual for house officers published in 2015. He has over 140 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters. His awards include a best doctor award from the Rotary Club of Chennai Towers in 2013, an international healthcare award in 2016, and the Mayan Award.
