Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan — Senior Consultant in Chennai

Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan is Senior Consultant in Liver and Renal Transplant Surgery at Rela Hospital, Chennai, with more than 20 years of experience. Her profile records surgical gastroenterology together with kidney transplantation.

Transplantation is the whole of her list. She performs liver transplant and pediatric liver transplant, living donor kidney transplant, multivisceral transplant, pancreas transplant and simultaneous pancreas–kidney transplant, with liver tumor surgery alongside them.

Her qualifications are dated. She read MBBS at Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai in 1996 and took her MS in general surgery at Madras Medical College in 2001. Her transplant training was taken in the United States, on an ASTS fellowship in transplant surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in 2006. She added a GMHE in general management in healthcare at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, in 2019.

Her awards run across two decades and three organisations in their first phase. She took the Young Investigator Award of the Association of Surgeons of India in 2001, the CAST Young Investigator Award in 2003 and the International Liver Transplantation Society Young Investigator Award in 2016. Later recognition came from The Transplantation Society, which named her a Woman Leader in Transplantation in 2022, from Rotary International with a Vocational Excellence Award the same year, and from the La Renon Tanker Foundation with its "For the Sake of Honor" award in 2023.

Her academic record comprises eight textbook chapters in national and international medical publications and over 70 peer-reviewed publications, and she is a regular invited speaker at conferences and CME lectures.
