What is Chest Tube / Intercostal Drainage?
A chest tube or intercostal drain passes through the chest wall into the pleural space to evacuate air, fluid, blood, pus or chyle. It connects to an underwater seal or other one-way system so the lung can re-expand while output and air leak are monitored.
