What is Pediatric Heart Transplantation?
Pediatric heart transplantation replaces a child's failing heart with a donor heart after formal multidisciplinary evaluation, listing and organ allocation; it is a longitudinal program, not a scheduled package procedure. After a compatible organ is allocated under applicable rules, transplant surgery removes the failing heart and implants the donor organ; complex congenital anatomy may require additional reconstruction.
